Thursday, August 07, 2008…”Having successfully conducted the 2008 Local Government Elections, the National Electoral Commission would like to take the opportunity to extend its thanks to the media.

 

An independent media is an essential element for a healthy democracy, providing vital educational and oversight functions. This is especially true in relation to elections, where the public rely on the media to provide a forum for political exchange and debate and to inform them of their rights and obligations throughout the process.  

 

The NEC wishes to extend its praise to the media for its responsible, balanced reporting throughout the Local Government electoral process and looks forward to future interaction and cooperation.
